24th AASRA Amp Open at Whitecourt was a Huge Success!
July 4, 5 & 6, 2025 at Whitecourt Golf Course

From July 4-6,2025 twenty-three AASRA members and associates gathered at Whitecourt Golf Course to contest the 25th annual AASRA Amp Open Golf Tournament. Hosts Randy and Lerma Cameron did a terrific job of setting up the tournament including accommodations and sponsorship.
If there was a single word to describe this year’s Amp Open it would be “friendly”. The staff at the golf course were totally pleasant and accommodating which was a great foundation for three days of golf, good food, fun and camaraderie.
The three days of golf included a practice round (optional) followed by two days of competitive play. There were nine participants in the Stroke Play division, six in Stableford and eight in the Associate division.
Whitecourt golf course is one of several outstanding golf venues in northern Alberta. Fairways are quite wide and lined with large trees and there are many strategically placed bunkers. Water only comes into play to a minor degree on a couple of holes however there are a few very scenic views of the McLeod river which joins the historic Athabascaat Whitecourt. It was nice to spot a deer or two while we were playing.
The weatherman must have known the Amp Open schedule. All three days were warm, if a bit overcast at times. A lovely beef buffet was served at the golf course after the first day of tournament play on Saturday with complimentary beer from Sagitwah Brewing. After the meal the sky opened, and it absolutely POURED! No one made it to their car in the parking lot without getting soaked. Back on Sunday it was beautifully warm and humid again.
After the second and final round of competitive play on Sunday, participants gathered for a burger buffet (the food served at the golf course was delicious) in the clubhouse and prizes in each category were awarded. The category winners were:
